Primarily a collection of news links about all 12 Missouri Valley League teams on a daily basis, culled from online newspapers, school athletic websites, the conference website, and school newspapers, plus some other content from time to time.
Tonight’s Menu
The slate is busier than most Mondays will be the rest of the year,
with conference games taking up a good portion as we can expect most of
the way until March.
The Missouri Valley Conference gets underway as Southern Illinois
visits Indiana State and Loyola-Chicago visits Valparaiso (8 p.m.)
Tonight’s Menu
The final day of 2019 has 15 Division I games on tap, highlighted by early conference games. We’ll see you in 2020!
The start of Missouri Valley Conference play for a few teams is on
tap as Northern Iowa visits Illinois State (3 p.m.), Missouri State
hosts Evansville (5 p.m.) and Bradley hosts Drake (7 p.m.)
With the 2010’s coming to close, what better time to
shine a light on guys that played college basketball over the last 10
years.
Below is a list of one 2010’s player from every mid-major
team. Some may be the program’s best over the past decade, some may
not. But without a doubt, all of these guys played for their respective
teams.
Northern Iowa 67 percent, Loyola Chicago 20 percent, Bradley 14 percent, Indiana State 11 percent
Northern Iowa, at 11-1, is now the darling of the league, having
suffered its only loss to West Virginia, to go with quality wins at
Colorado and over South Carolina in Mexico. The pick in the conference’s
preseason poll, Missouri State, isn’t even listed here after going 6-7
in nonconference play. That doesn’t mean it can’t win it, but based on
what we’ve seen so far, it will take much-improved play for that to
happen.
HIGHLIGHTED GAMES
-NORTHERN IOWA AT ILLINOIS STATE (Missouri Valley). This is much
easier said than done, but Northern Iowa clearly looks like the best
team in the Missouri Valley, and is probably good enough to run the
table. If they do, then they should be in the NCAA Tournament even if
they don’t win the conference tournament.
There’s no need to regurgitate what my colleague Ky wrote two weeks ago, which details UNI’s recipe for success, as the Purple Panthers have quietly assembled a hefty at large resume. The only scar is a 5-point loss to West Virginia in Mexico, hardly a “blemish” considering what the Mountaineers just did to Ohio State yesterday. UNI is 2-1 in Quadrant 1 and 2 games, and the win at Colorado will be front page cover worthy come Selection Sunday. The Missouri Valley is far more respectable than it was a year ago so based on the following NET rankings, the Panthers could have as many as six Q2 win opportunities on the road still on the table (friendly reminder that wins over teams ranked 76th – 135th in the NET qualify as Q2).
