The bracket for the 2017 Gildan Charleston Classic has been revealed, and it is looking like Temple-Old Dominion is going to be the best matchup of a mid-major-laden tournament.

The other first-round games in the mid-November basketball tournament will be Clemson-Ohio, Dayton-Hofstra, and Auburn-Indiana State.

Clemson, Ohio, Dayton, and Hofstra are on the right side of the bracket, while Auburn, Indiana State, Temple, and Old Dominion are on the bracket’s left side.

11am: #2 Scarlet & Gray vs #3 Always A Brave

We have another near miss in the category of alumni teams. All four squads in the Midwest Super 16 are alumni squads, with Marquette (obvs), Ohio State, Bradley, and Kansas State all represented. Teams made up of former Colorado and Gonzaga are occupying the top two seeds in the West, while the other two are random amalgamation teams. Armored Athlete does have a core of former Indiana Hoosiers, though.

10 Transfers Fresh Off Sitting Out a Year Ready to Impact Their New Teams--CBB Central
#8 Milik Yarbrough-Illinois State

A transfer from Saint Louis, Yarbrough follows in the footsteps of his father, who starred at ISU from 1976-1980. With 4 starters departing from last season’s team, Yarbrough should get the chance to be a top option right away. In 2 solid seasons at SLU, Yarbrough demonstrated a versatile skillset, as his muscular 6-6 frame allows him to finish at the rim while also being a threat to knock down threes at an excellent clip. If Illinois State wants to stay near the top of the Missouri Valley, Yarbrough must have a big season.

The Basketball Tournament 2017: Bradley alumni win a thriller, Majerus SLU Crew advances, and more--Mid-Major Madness
Always A Brave wins at home

Those who expected 3 seed Always A Brave to coast on their home court against 14 seed Mid-American Unity were quickly proven wrong. The underdogs led for much of the game, answering every run that the Bradley alumni threw at them in a game that featured five ties and eight lead changes. In fact, Always A Brave didn’t take the lead for good until under a minute left to play. Marcellus Sommerville led all scorers with 17 points for Always A Brave, while Walt Lemon added 12 more to go with four assists. With a 68-63 win, they advance to face Fort Wayne Champs on Sunday, also on the campus of Bradley University.
The Basketball Tournament 2017: Always A Brave and Few Good Men advance to Brooklyn--Mid-Major Madness
Fast start fuels Always A Brave

Always A Brave led by 16 at the half, then by as many as 20 as they held off Fort Wayne Champs for a 92-81 win. 12 players from the Bradley alumni team saw the court, led by Marcellus Sommerville and Jerome Randle who scored 21 points each. Walt Lemon had 19 points on a perfect 9-9 shooting. Next up for Always A Brave: No more home court advantage and a date with the Fightin’ Aaron Crafts (actually, the Ohio State alumni team is called Scarlet & Gray) on Saturday in Brooklyn.
