On the flip side, it was a crucial win for Illinois State, who had already absorbed early losses to Belmont and Georgia. The Redbirds still have chances to impress against San Diego State, Ole Miss, and UCF. The major carat there is UCF, at least as it appears right now.

News, Notes, and Highlighted Games: Wednesday, Nov 28--Hoops HD
NEWS AND NOTES
...
-In a much anticipated rematch from last year’s Sweet Sixteen, Nevada won impressively at Loyola Chicago in front of a crowd that was absolutely jacked for the game. Loyola has been somewhat disappointing this season, but Nevada has looked impressive every time they have taken the floor.
...
HIGHLIGHTED GAMES
...
-BRADLEY AT IUPUI. Bradly is off to a good 6-1 start, but doesn’t have a true road win yet. They should get this one, but IUPUI is a surprising 4-2 with a win at Boston College, and a really good showing at Xavier in a loss, so while the Braves should win it won’t be an easy win.
...
-BYU AT ILLINOIS STATE. This is an important road game for a BYU team that has looked pretty good at times, but really needs some meat on their resume. Illinois State is a solid team that plays well at home, and the committee should throw some credit BYU’s way if they’re able to pull this off.

Side Dishes

One of the highlights of the slate of games outside of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge was a rematch of a regional semifinal game from last season as Nevada visited Loyola-Chicago. As part of their legendary Final Four run, Loyola beat the Wolfpack by one, but this one was not in doubt for long. Nevada shot 62.5 percent in the first half to run out to a 44-28 lead and went on to win 79-65 behind a combined 41 points from Martin twins Caleb (21 points) and Cody (20).

26:09: Nevada had no issues at Loyola-Chicago on Tuesday. Opened 29-9. Up 44-28 at the break. Won 79-65. Just a super-impressive performance from Eric Musselman's Wolf Pack. They did what a true national-championship contender is supposed to do to a borderline top-75 team. They went to Loyola-Chicago and overwhelmed the Ramblers pretty much from tip to buzzer.

Illinois State

The Redbirds salvaged an uninspiring start to the season by winning their final two games of the Cayman Islands Classic against Akron and Boise State. Those wins won’t generate the at-large buzz many thought this Illinois State was capable of, but they were solid (and stabilizing) nonetheless.

The Redbirds have a golden opportunity to put the pedal down on that momentum with home games against BYU and San Diego State over the next week.

The Trees may be a team worth watching in the Missouri Valley – they’ll have another good UTR test when Wright State comes to town next Saturday.
Hard in the Paint: Stroud emerges, Kessler updates recruitment--24/7 Sports
Junior combo guard Brandon Stroud emerges

Brandon Stroud, a 2020 combo guard out of Sharpburg (Ga.) East Coweta, emerged as a budding prospect on Friday evening against Montgomery (Ala.) Carver.

Stroud immediately stood out due to his physical tools. He has good size for the position (6-foot-5), ridiculously long arms and is an above average athlete.

The combo guard impressed with his playmaking ability, feel as a passer and he consistently got in the paint. In our viewing, Stroud made shots from mid-range, the three-point stripe and made his way to the free throw line often.

“I’m passing and shooting really, one dribble pull-ups, whatever my team needs to win but I like to dribble, pass and shoot really,” Stroud said when asked to describe his game.

Stroud has flown under the radar, but after growing six inches over the past year and a half, he’s started to garner more attention.

Stroud said his recruitment picked up some following his summer playing with Big Shots. He said he’s taken unofficial visits to Liberty and Indiana State. Georgia and Alabama were among the schools that evaluated him this weekend.

Another monster individual performance came from Murray State’s Ja Morant against Missouri State. The talented sophomore scored a career-high 29 points and also added 13 rebounds and 12 assists in the Racers’ 77-66 win. The Racers sure have a knack for finding exciting guards. (Also for Missouri State: 1-for-16 from three-point range. Ouch.)

Indiana State quietly earned a solid win, defeating Western Kentucky 63-54 at home. The Sycamores’ big men held their own against the Hilltoppers’ power inside, and ISU’s guards were clearly better with Jordan Barnes and Tyreke Key combining for 33 points.

He’s clearly the #1 scoring option for the Panthers, and also shoulders much of the ball-handling load.
