How I see conference tournaments shaking out for Belmont, Lipscomb, MTSU and TSU--The Tennessean

Missouri Valley

  • Thursday-Sunday
  • At St Louis

Rundown: Belmont coach Casey Alexander said this tournament is “going to be blood bath from the first tip-off.’’ It is an incredibly balanced league; you could make a case for eight teams to win this tournament. Bradley, a veteran team that plays outstanding defense and rebounds furiously, won the regular-season title by beating Drake in a winner-take-all game. Bradley is ranked in the top 25 in the country in margin of victory. However, Drake, Southern Illinois and Indiana State are all capable of stringing together victories.

What Belmont must do to win: The Bruins can be dynamic on offense; they’re outstanding shooters, both inside and outside the arc. If they can defend well enough, they have a chance. Securing a first-round bye by winning at Northern Iowa was important.

Prediction: Drake. The Bulldogs’ roster is loaded with veteran players who have been through this before and been successful. Their best player is sophomore forward Tucker DeVries, son of coach Darian Devries.

Hoops HD Daily Rundown – Sunday, Feb 26th--Hoops HD

HIGHLIGHTED GAMES:

-DRAKE AT BRADLEY (Missouri Valley).  This is also John Stalica’s UTR Game of the Day.  CLICK HERE to read his take on it.  This is for first place in the Missouri Valley and a chance to lock up at least an NIT bid, but more importantly than that it’s a game between two teams who are both capable of winning a game in the Round of 64 if they are able to get there.  It’s also a resume builder, which can help improve their seed and get a more winnable game in the Round of 64.  These two may be facing each other again a week from today, and that will obviously be a much bigger game, but today is still really big.

The Breakfast Buffet--College Hoops Today

On The Side

  • The sleeper game of the day in college basketball is in the Missouri Valley as Drake (24-6) visits Bradley (22-8).
