Primarily a collection of news links about all 12 Missouri Valley League teams on a daily basis, culled from online newspapers, school athletic websites, the conference website, and school newspapers, plus some other content from time to time.
-Indiana State avenged their loss to Drake from earlier in the season as
they held off the Bulldogs 75-67. The game was actually a lot closer than
what the final score indicated. I think both these teams deserve a serious
look from the committee, especially when you consider how hard it is to win
some of the road games that they’ve both won, but right now I think the
Trees have the upper hand.
Questions about the week ahead in nashvillehoops.blog basketball:
Belmont
Can the Bruins find some relief in facing Murray State at home Thursday and
Valparaiso on the road Saturday?
This season has gone the wrong way in recent weeks as the Bruins (12-11)
have lost six of their last seven and have tumbled into a three-way tie for
eighth in the Missouri Valley with Evansville and Illinois State at 5-7.
Murray State (9-14, 6-6) has been wildly inconsistent. The Racers just wiped
out Northern Iowa 71-43 but lost to Illinois State 61-59 in their previous
game. Former Belmont guard JaCobi Wood returns again to the Curb. He’s
averaging 12.3 ppg and a team-leading 4.1 apg.
Valpo (6-17, 2-10) may be near the bottom of the standings but the Beacons
didn’t go quitely the first time they played Belmont before eventually
succumbing 77-68. Of note, five of Valpo’s wins came on their home court.
The Sycamores will be a team worth keeping an eye on from the so-called
mid-major ranks over the next month. They avenged their lone Missouri Valley
Conference loss over the weekend by taking down Drake and now own a two-game
lead and a 20-3 overall record.
