What's Up In The Missouri Valley 1/13/2019

Saturday Notes – January 12, 2019--Hoops HD
Without further adieu, here are notes from a number of the day’s games.
...
Loyola-Chicago 67, Illinois State 64: Too much was expected of the Ramblers before the season based off their magical run of a year ago. After a tough time for some of non-conference play, however, they’re 3-1 in Missouri Valley play and look more like a team favored to win their conference.

Valparaiso 65, Southern Illinois 61: The team Loyola is chasing is Valparaiso, for now at least, as the Crusaders are now 4-0 after this nice road win.

UPDATE: 4:48

Well the 2:00 games were fun.
...
Over in the Valley, Loyola hit its free throws down the stretch to edge an Illinois State team that refused to go away.

The Ramblers led for almost the entire second half, but Matt Chastain tied it on a dunk with 2:37 left. And while Loyola did not hit a field goal the rest of the way, Clayton Custer and Lucas Williamson combined to go 6-6 from the stripe.

Up three, Loyola locked down in the final possession, preventing the Redbirds from getting a clean look to tie. Zach Copeland missed a tough look as time expired and Loyola won, 67-64.
