What's Up In The Missouri Valley 7/18/2017

The Basketball Tournament 2017: Bradley alumni win a thriller, Majerus SLU Crew advances, and more--Mid-Major Madness
Always A Brave wins at home

Those who expected 3 seed Always A Brave to coast on their home court against 14 seed Mid-American Unity were quickly proven wrong. The underdogs led for much of the game, answering every run that the Bradley alumni threw at them in a game that featured five ties and eight lead changes. In fact, Always A Brave didn’t take the lead for good until under a minute left to play. Marcellus Sommerville led all scorers with 17 points for Always A Brave, while Walt Lemon added 12 more to go with four assists. With a 68-63 win, they advance to face Fort Wayne Champs on Sunday, also on the campus of Bradley University.

Fast start fuels Always A Brave

Always A Brave led by 16 at the half, then by as many as 20 as they held off Fort Wayne Champs for a 92-81 win. 12 players from the Bradley alumni team saw the court, led by Marcellus Sommerville and Jerome Randle who scored 21 points each. Walt Lemon had 19 points on a perfect 9-9 shooting. Next up for Always A Brave: No more home court advantage and a date with the Fightin’ Aaron Crafts (actually, the Ohio State alumni team is called Scarlet & Gray) on Saturday in Brooklyn.
