Players of the Week
Jaquan Johnson’s 33-point explosion against Central Michigan is the the highest scoring performance of the young season. The 5’11 sophomore scored 13 points during Bradley’s season opener and is the MVC’s ‘Player of the Week’.
Week One Newcomers
Another prolific shooter was Indiana State’s Ian Scott. The NAIA transfer connected on 82 percent of his shots on the way to 37 points during the Sycamore’s first two games. This week’s MVC ‘Newcomer of the Week’ also grabbed 17 rebounds.
Top Rookies
Illinois State’s Ty’Reek Coleman struggled shooting the ball during the Redbirds’ opener and then exploded for 24 points against Cornell. This week’s MVC ‘Freshman of the Week’ is one of ten first year players nationally to score that many points.
The Other Women’s Top 25: Murray St., Temple join rankings, crash top dozen--Mid-Major Madness
Murray St. and Temple made major splashes as they joined the first in-season Other Top 25 ranking. Both teams went from unranked in the preseason to the top 12 in this week’s poll.
The Racers came in at No. 11 and won their lone game against a Division-I opponent so far, which was a 79-77 win over Southern Indiana on the road. They have a massive game Tuesday this week as they visit South Dakota St., who was ranked No. 4 this week.
Murray St. sits 73rd in BartTorvik and is the second highest rated Missouri Valley team, behind Belmont. It is nearly 30 spots ahead of the next team in the conference. The Racers are 47th in adjusted offensive efficiency.
