Players of the Week

Evansville’s Tayshawn Comer recorded back-to-back career high scoring marks. The Eastern Kentucky transfer scored 24 points against Indiana State and 26 against Southern Illinois. Comer is the second Evansville player to earn a weekly award. His ‘Player of the Week’ honor ties him with rookie Gabriel Pozzato who earned one ‘Freshman of the Week’ award.

Newcomer Awards Rolling In

Belmont earned a split of its two games and Jonathan Pierre earned his second MVC ‘Newcomer of the Week’ award. Pierre averaged 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds as the Bruins lost at Northern Iowa and defeated UIC at home. He joins Indiana State’s Samage Teel as the only Valley players with more than one ‘newcomer’ award.

Rookie Awards Rolling In

Valparaiso claimed a pair of wins and guard All Wright earned his third MVC ‘Freshman of the Week’ award. Wright averaged 10.5 points and three assists during the two-game sweep. The 6’3 guard is the Valley’s leading freshman scorer (10.3 ppg) and distributor (2.9 apg).

Drake Bulldogs

Drake was one of the last four unbeaten teams in the country. But that was ended with a loss at Illinois-Chicago on Wednesday. That can be a forgivable loss but following that up with a home defeat to Murray State isn’t.

And with neither non-con win over Miami or Kansas State looking good, Drake may already be in a position where they need to win the MVC Tournament title to feel good about going dancing.
