Great stuff here from

to spread out Wichita State's defense, take away the help by shaking
the shooter up the arc and then letting Xavier Johnson make the read.

Here at Nashvillehoops.blog, we like to think of ourselves as optimists. It
might be hard to hold that position this week, however, looking ahead to the
handful of games on the schedule.
— Belmont has the best chance for a positive week when the Bruins play
Arkansas State Wednesday. The Red Wolves are 4-7 but have won two in a row
with wins over UAB and Louisville so you can’t say they’re not dangerous.
It could be another chance for Casey Alexander to search for some depth on
his roster. It’s been a difficult task and it could have been a factor in
Saturday’s loss at Samford where they faced a deep team that was determined
to pressure things defensively for 40 minutes.
Cade Tyson scored 31 points in just 27 minutes after sitting out much of the
first half with foul problems. Not only did the Bruins miss him, but they
also struggled against Samford’s full-court pressure. Even Ja’Kobi
Gillespie, as good as he was in other areas, had six turnovers.
Two players Alexander has mentioned as potential providers of depth, Win
Miller and Kyler Vanderjagt, barely broke a sweat. Miller was on the court
for five minutes while Vanderjagt only played three minutes and had an
egregious 10-second violation bringing the ball up court.
Belmont fans might recall that Will Shaver, a 6-10 sophomore, committed to
Belmont when transferring out of North Carolina but ended up at UAB. Who can
say what he would have done in Nashville, but he’s only played five games
and finally scored his first points of the season against Division 2
Montevello on Sunday.
-Indiana State is now 10-1 on the year after knocking off Ball State 83-72
in the Indy Classic. Indiana State should be getting way more attention than
what they are. Their record is strong, but they’ve beaten som pretty strong
teams along the way and are starting to look like they belong inside the
bubble and should be talked about as a legit top 40 caliber team.
