Missouri Valley Conference

Murray State’s D.J. Burns averaged a double-double during the Racers’ (7-4) two wins. Burns scored 15 points and grabbed eight rebounds during a narrow win over Chicago State and catapulted the Racers to a rivalry win over Austin Peay by contributing 18 points and 14 rebounds. Burns is Murray State’s second Player of the Week this season.

Belmont’s Keishawn Davidson is this week’s Newcomer of the Week. Davidson exploded with 13 overtime points during the Bruins’ (7-5) extra session win over Chattanooga. The Tennessee Tech transfer finished with a season-high 23 points. Davidson missed the Belmont’s six games with a shoulder injury.

News, Notes, and Highlighted Games – Dec 20th--Hoops HD

HIGHLIGHTED GAMES:

-DRAKE AT MISSISSIPPI STATE.  Mississippi State is unbeaten, but a lot of their wins have been quad 4 wins and they need some better ones to really solidify themselves.  Drake is a team we were big on coming into the year that has underperformed somewhat.  They’ve lost two straight, and neither team looks like they’re going to end up inside the bubble.  A win today would go a long way for Drake turning things around, but even with the win they’ll still have more work to do.

  • Doesn’t sound like Shakeel Moore will suit up for Miss State...  Jans’ defense essentially only allows you to operate in the midrange, but as much as it makes analytics guys cringe, that’s where Drake thrives...

NEWS AND NOTES:

-Drake, who we were big on coming into the season but who we were starting to give up on, has now given us a reason to be believers again.  They knocked off Mississippi State 58-52 for what is clearly their biggest win of the year so far, and may finally be starting to look like the team that we thought could dominate the MVC and land inside the bubble.  It was the first loss of the year for Mississippi State, so it’s a win that Drake should get a lot of credit for.
