Belmont
Organized randomness was too much for Belmont on Saturday in Terre Haute, Ind., as the Bruins fell to Indiana State 94-64.
Maybe it all went wrong when Indiana State guard Isaiah Swope hit six three-pointers in a less-than-seven minute stretch as the Sycamores took a 19-point lead. That was just part of the problem.
Indiana State is a great offensive team that hopefully will get to prove it in the NCAA Tournament.
Before it was over, Indiana State converted 16 0f 33 three-pointers which will win most games, but the Sycamores also converted 17 of 27 two-pointers. That’s how you get a rout.
Belmont, playing without injured point guard Ja’Kobi Gillespie, had 15 turnovers, not too egregious, but that led to 21 points for Indiana State. Cade Tyson is struggling offensively and only had 9 points, hitting 3 of 10 shots. Belmont fell short on the boards, too, getting outrebounded 37-26.
The Bruins have had problems on the road where they’ve lost five of eight games. They’ll be back home, where they’re 7-0, against Northern Iowa Wednesday.
