MVC/OVC Weekly Awards--Valley Hoops Insider
Missouri Valley Conference
Drake’s Roman Penn is the Bulldogs’ career record holder of assists and is this week’s ‘Player of the Week‘. The 6’ grad student averaged 19.5 points, five rebounds and 5.5 assists during Drake’s two victories. Drake (21-6, 12-4) has won seven straight games and Penn is the Valley’s eleventh most prolific producer of career assists (569).
Indiana State’s Courvoisier McCauley claimed his second straight (third overall) ‘Newcomer of the Week‘ award. McCauley averaged 18 points per game and the Sycamores (18-9, 11-5) won both of their games. The 6’5 DePaul transfer ranks sixth in the MVC scoring race (16.7 ppg) and he and Belmont’s Drew Friberg are approaching the league’s record for most three-pointers by a first year conference performer.
Missouri State’s Adam Leonard owns the record with 103. Friberg (88) and McCauley (83) rank in the top seven in MVC history.

JUNKYARD DOGJonathan Mogbo, Missouri State
- Thresholds: 70.0 MIN%, 15.0 ORB%, 30.0 DRB%
- Mogbo’s line: 78.8 MIN%, 19.0 ORB%, 37.7 DRB%
After averaging a double-double in the JUCO ranks as a sophomore, Mogbo is becoming that guy on the Division I level, too. The 6-8 post didn’t register his first 10-and-10 for the Bears until Jan. 4, but he has five so far in Missouri Valley play. Last week, Mogbo didn’t score much (12 points in two games), but his 19 rebounds against Belmont were the most in his collegiate career, JUCO stops included. He also had 10 boards against Evansville on Sunday, after which he ranked in the top 80 nationally in both offensive and defensive rebound rates. Mogbo is also showing off his chops as one of the best defenders in the MVC and in the country, ranking 49th nationally in steal rate (3.8 percent) and 118th in block rate (5.7)
